A87 Cafe

Went to a cosplay cafe called A87 short for Akibanana along Tanjong Pagar Road opened by Singapore's youngest (possibly) owner. This entrepreneurial 19 year-old started with a popular 'maid cafe' at Chjimes where all the waitresses look like French maids. Now she has started another cafe where all the waiters wear cute corset tops with frilly frocks coupled with knee-high socks and pastel pink shoes.

The photo above is a sort of green-tea porridge with salmon flakes on it. See the cute star-shaped seaweed bit floating and the lovely seashell spoon? Well, that's about all that's nice about it. Frankly, it is very tasteless. The other fried chicken with quail eggs I ordered wasn't any good either.

They do have curious names for the food though, like "Elephant" or "Wormy Pineapple Tarts". The cutesy waitress also cast a spell on my food to make it taste better!!! Well, apparently her spell didn't work. Good thing I wasn't having any expectations of the food.

The decor as you can see, is quite school project-ish, with all the organza drapes on the ceiling, big bows on the back of chairs, and some furry 'ears' on the chairs. They even have helium-filled balloons everywhere. Oh, and the tables have pictures of sailor moon on them.

There's our sweet waitress who speaks in chipmunk voice in her yellow uniform. Btw, the "butler" in black in the background is also a lady.

Good to go if you're looking for novelty. You can get fed by one of the waitresses for $1 per bite, or take photos with them for a fee. Not surprisingly, 80% of the customers there were male while I was there.
